Importing Cameo (.mdzip) Files into Astah SysML and System Safety
Support for non-standard diagrams, tables, and matrices from Cameo.
Both Astah SysML and Astah System Safety support the import of .mdzip and .mdxml files created in Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw). This feature is intended to migrate standard SysML model elements and diagrams into the Astah environment.
Diagram Compatibility
Astah focuses on rendering standard SysML diagrams. Consequently, non-standard or vendor-specific diagrams unique to Cameo cannot be opened directly.
| Feature / Diagram Type | Supported? | Notes |
| Standard SysML Diagrams | Yes | Block Definition, Internal Block, Sequence, etc. |
| Requirement Tables | No | Underlying model data is imported; tables must be regenerated. |
| Generic Tables | No | Not supported. |
| Dependency Matrices | No | Not supported. |
| Free Flow Diagrams | No | Not supported. |
For a comprehensive list of all compatible model elements and diagram types, please refer to our official documentation:
Handling Requirements and Tables
Although Cameo-specific tables are not rendered upon import, the Requirement models themselves are brought into the project.

In Astah: You can easily recreate these views by generating a new Requirement Table within Astah based on the imported models.
